Release - The Coastal Challenge

TCC ADVENTURES ANNOUNCES TWO-PERSON RELAY OPTION FOR THE COASTAL CHALLENGE RAINFOREST RUN

New Relay Offers Adventure On and Off-Course

TRUMBULL, CT (August 17, 2010) – The seventh edition of The Coastal Challenge, a six-day 225-kilometer stage race being held January 30 through February 4, 2011 in Costa Rica, now offers two additional race and registration options.

TCC Relay. Exclusively for teams of two the new TCC Relay offers individuals looking for an international adventure and a team race dynamic the opportunity to experience Costa Rica both on and off the course. Teams can split the route in half and play to their individual strengths, picking their stages and rest days in advance, based on the route and their strategy. The teammate not running can rest at the finish line, cheer on their teammate or break away from the race for the day and enjoy one of the adventure tours offered to guests.

Coastal Range Hill Race. Also being offered for the first time this year is a race within a race, the inaugural three-day Coastal Range Hill Race.  Participants in this category will be racing their own race in the first 3 stages of the Coastal Challenge but this will include two of the toughest and most scenic ultra-distance stages we have in the entire Rainforest Run route.

“The new team relay option really is the best way for individuals to experience the best of the race course and incredible areas of Costa Rica fused together into one expedition, while the Coastal Range Race will test runners in a different and shorter race on the same terrain. They will face their own set of challenges but also walk away with a greater sense of what it takes to complete the entire six-day Expedition Run route.” said Race Director and Event Founder Tim Holmstrom.

Both these options allow individual to sample a part of the race route at an entry-level price and created primarily for people not yet prepared physically or mentally to tackle the full six days of running that make up the entire route.

Set in Costa Rica’s pristine southern region, the Coastal Range Race and Rainforest Run will utilize the country’s rich rainforests as a backdrop for a diverse course that moves from jungle and rainforest trails to highlands, coastal ranges, reefs, and river crossings.

The route, which has a decidedly different feel from the Route of Fire,  the Rainforest Run’s sister race in the Northwest, will weave from the beach into the Talamancas, a coastal mountain range, before finishing in Corcovado National Park, one of the world’s premier rainforest experiences and Unesco World Heritage site.

Online registration for both the Coastal Range Race and TCC Relay will open Aug 24th to the public at http://www.active.com . The seventh edition of the six-day 250-kilometer stage race begins in Quepos and winds through the southern portion of Costa Rica to Bahia Drake (Drake Bay).
